Winterization: How to drain vacuum breaker to prevent freeze damage Here is a 10 Step Simple Process to drain vacuum breaker to prevent freeze damage.
Step 1
First go to controller and turn on first zone manual to start system running.
Step 2
Find main shut off valve, you will here water running thru pipe.
Step 3
Turn main shut off valve so it is perpendicular with the pipe.
Step 4
Go to vacuum breaker and with standard screw driver open both test cocks.
Step 5
Second test cock open.
Step 6
Remove lower drain cap or open hose spigot.
Step 7
Turn ball valve to 45 degree angle to not trap water.
Step 8
Turn ball valve to 45 degree angle to not trap water.
Step 9
Turn controller back to off position.
Step 10
In basement open any inside drains. Drain water into bucket, this will prevent any damage to the system during freeze condition. Call Old Faithful Sprinklers at (734)454-3704 for a winterization appointment.
